World Environment Day Photo Competition
Friday (5 June) is World Environment Day. This year’s theme is biodiversity – celebrating the essential variety of life forms on earth!
We want you to help us celebrate by sharing photos of the biodiversity we have in the borough for a photo competition.
Telford & Wrekin Council is looking for photographs that show the spectacular beauty of the borough’s green spaces and wildlife.
Telford and Wrekin has an abundance of open green spaces, as well as ancient semi-natural woodlands and plantation woodlands. It is an amazing place to capture the natural world.
My Wild Telford will also launch its On The Map feature this weekend which aims to capture the vast variety of wildlife we have in the borough. Residents will be invited to record the nature and wildlife they see around the borough and these records will then be uploaded to an interactive map.
Cllr Carolyn Healy, cabinet member for Visitor Economy, Historic and Natural Environment, and Climate Change said:
“We are really keen for our residents to share their photos of the nature and wildlife they see on their daily walk in the borough.
“My Wild Telford will provide a visual record of wide variety of wildlife we have in the borough.
“We are so lucky to live in such a green place and I am looking forward to seeing all of the entries for the photography competition.”
The photography competition is open to all borough residents. For those aged 11 and under, there is a drawing competition too.
For the drawing competition, more details and a downloadable colouring sheet, can be found here.
To enter, people need to get out in the borough and take photos of the nature and wildlife they see every day.
Photos should then be shared either on the competition post on the Council’s Facebook page or in the Pride in Our Community Facebook group, remembering to add the hashtag #WED2020competition and tell us where the photo was taken.
The deadline for entries to both competitions is Monday 8 June and the winners will be announced on Friday 12 June.
Cllr Carolyn Healy, Cllr Shirley Reynolds, cabinet member for children and young people, and John Box, from Shropshire Wildlife Trust, will judge the competitions.
GOOD LUCK!
