Thank you idverde, thank you crews

Grounds and street cleansing contractor idverde has pulled out all the stops to work with Telford & Wrekin Council to look after local green spaces and keep neighbourhoods clean and tidy since starting its contract with the borough in April last year.

Thank you idverde, thank you crews

No one could have foreseen the challenges of the last 12 months, but idverde and its crews have worked flat out, often going above and beyond to support the council in maintaining services wherever possible and helping local communities during the recent floods and current coronavirus outbreak.

In line with Government guidance for businesses and community services to continue if safe to do so, crews have been undertaking priority tasks, including burials, clearing fly tips and removing offensive graffiti.  Other jobs being done include emptying litter bins and grass cutting.

Idverde’s community-focused commitment has also been put to the test and crews are continuing to do all they can to support the Council and communities.  In the past two weeks, crews have been redeployed to help with free school meals deliveries, food deliveries to vulnerable residents identified by the Government, and lent a hand with waste and recycling collections.

Cllr Lee Carter, Telford & Wrekin Council cabinet member for the idverde contract, said: “These are unprecedented times, and we need to pull together to do what we can to get through this. idverde is doing a superb job at helping and my sincere thanks go to them and their crews. We cannot say thank you enough for the continued efforts of all our partners.

“I have noticed a few comments on social media asking why crews are still out emptying bins and cutting grass. These jobs need doing and as long as the Government says it is ok to do them, we will carry on.

“Clean streets, mown grass, well-kept green spaces and no fly tips are proven to boost community morale and people’s wellbeing.  The opposite can be said for dirty streets, overflowing bins and unkempt green spaces. So, I say again, thank you.”

Paul Slack, operations director at idverde, said: “The last few weeks have been a challenge for everyone, but we have adapted our approach so that we can continue to look after the borough. We won’t be able to get through as much as we would normally as the social distancing requirements mean staff can’t share vehicles and more of them are on foot.

“I am pleased to say that all of our workforce are local and a lot of the work we do are solo jobs, things like mowing grass and emptying litter bins.  As long as we can maintain staffing levels, we will continue with what we are doing. Serving the borough has been a pleasure and we look forward to getting through this and continuing to serve the community.”
