Food vouchers for children during Easter holidays

The Council, in partnership with schools, has decided to continue to support children and families eligible for free school meals over the Easter holidays until the Governments new free school meals scheme starts.

Food vouchers for children during Easter holidays

Over the last two weeks, while we have waited for the national government scheme to come in, our staff and volunteers have supplied and delivered 52,000 school meals directly to households who qualify.

We have written to parents about supporting them over the Easter holiday and support will be available to them from Monday 6 April.

Children who are attending school over the holiday period will continue to receive a school lunch.

Cllr Shaun Davies, Council Leader, said: “This has been a huge task to organise in a short space of time.  More than 52,000 meals have been provided to children across the borough.

“The team and volunteers have worked extremely hard over the last two weeks ensuring children and families who may be struggling financially have been fed.

“Although the free school meal provision doesn’t normally cover school holidays, we recognise that families may be under increased financial pressure at this challenging time.  Therefore, as we move into the Easter holidays we will be supporting them before the government scheme is rolled out.”

The Government have confirmed that their new voucher scheme will start on Monday 20 April after the Easter holidays.
