Coronavirus – unsafe and overpriced products

Our officers are aware that fake and unsafe products, such as scam tests for COVID-19 are being placed on the market.

Coronavirus – unsafe and overpriced products

Please do not buy these products! If you see any such products for sale, report them to us.

We are also aware that some shops and stores are charging highly inflated prices for items such as toilet rolls and hand sanitiser. Colleagues in the West Midlands have reported that toilet rolls with a recommended retail price (RRP) of £1 are being sold for £4.50, potatoes being raised in price from £5.99 to £15 and a chemist charging £19.99 for infant paracetamol.

While it isn’t illegal for them to hike prices as long as they are clearly marked, if you see a trader doing it, we want you to tell us.

We have set up a specific email address to report such matters - coronavirus@telford.gov.uk or telephone 01952 381818 (please note that we recommend where possible you email us rather than calling due to the high volume of calls we are currently experiencing).
