Crucial Crew celebrates 25 years of success
For over 25 years now the annual Crucial Crew event has been preparing year six students in Telford and Wrekin with an education in safety essentials to help them make the step up to secondary school.
This year more than 2300 students from over 50 schools across Telford and Wrekin took part in the multi-agency partnership event taking place over the course of 14 days at Telford College.
The children took part in several different scenarios throughout the day, learning about:
- road safety
- fire safety
- electrical safety
- streetwise
- anti-social behaviour
- healthy eating
- be active
- being a good listener
- alcohol awareness
- water safety
- consequences of crime
Cllr Shirley Reynolds - Cabinet Member for Children, Young People & Education, said: “Crucial Crew is a fantastic event with more than 2,300 children receiving guidance on what to do in a number of potentially unsafe situations.
“It’s been going for over 25 years now and is one of the best attended Crucial Crew events in the country. Nearly every school in the borough takes part.
“It was easy to tell that the children had a fantastic day, but also that they were learning every step of the way.
“It's essential that we equip children with the knowledge to tackle many unsafe situations and Crucial Crew certainly managed to do that over the course of a day.
“I would very much like to thank Telford College who have been a great venue for an event of this size and nature.”
People taking part in Crucial Crew included: West Merica Police, Telford & Wrekin Road Safety, Samaritans, school nurses, Telford & Wrekin Leisure Services, Royal Lifesaving Society, Shropshire Magistrates, Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service, Western Power, Telford & Wrekin Public Protection, Streetkings.
