Armed Forces Day fun this weekend

Telford will be celebrating the work of its Armed Forces community this Saturday with a FREE family fun day in Telford Town Park arena from 11am until 5pm.

The event is being organised to mark Armed Forces Day 2019 which is the annual national campaign that gives everyone the opportunity to show their support for past and present military personnel including currently serving troops and their families, reservists, veterans and cadets.

The line-up includes special military vehicle displays, group shows from local forces reserve units, cadets and regular forces from all three services (Army, Navy and the Royal Air force).

There will be all of the usual family fun including sports activities for the kids, Have-a-go archery and tennis, a music and entertainment stage, funfair, inflatables, craft stalls, food, drink and much more.

Special offers and discounts will be available at all stalls for anyone with proof of service either current or veteran.

During 29 and 30 June, the Armed Forces community and their families will also be able to take advantage of free and half price leisure services.

Free Disc Golf
Free Day pass to use Horsehay Village Golf Centre aspirations health & fitness facilities
Free round of golf at Horsehay Village Golf Centre (after 12pm) booking required
Free public swim or family swim
Half Price Family Ski School session at Telford  Ski Centre (2-4pm) booking required
Money off at Sky Reach

Councillor Raj Mehta, Cabinet Member for Communities and Inclusivity said: “This is another opportunity for our communities to come together in a relaxed family atmosphere and pay tribute to those who serve and have served our country from all cultures and backgrounds.”

Councillor Chris Turley, lead on the Armed Forces Covenant for the borough, commented: “We hope as many Armed Forces families as possible take advantage of our offers across the weekend to experience some of the fantastic leisure activities the borough has to offer. We are extremely grateful to all our servicemen and women who are committed to protecting our country, and also to their families who support them throughout their service.”
