Bringing something quite different to Wellington

Telford & Wrekin Council has awarded a £10,000 Pride in Our Community High Street grant to support the opening of a new restaurant and bar that brings something different to Wellington.

Bringing something quite different to Wellington

Walnut restaurant and bar opens soon in Tan Bank, Wellington.  The menu will include a range of dishes with a strong vegetarian and vegan offering, small plates, popular favourites, indulgent desserts and children’s menu. Food will be locally sourced where possible and created by the talented kitchen team.

Blue Light, NHS and Armed Forces card holders will all receive discounts as a way of honouring those who do so much to help others in the community.   There will also be a function area for private business meetings, family occasions and club gatherings.

Restaurant owner, Karen Lee, has worked in the hospitality industry in Shropshire for more than 10 years, but this is her first restaurant.

She said: “I love what I do and have learnt how restaurants that are run well can hold a unique place in the hearts of their local community.  I am determined to create a business where all are welcome and talented staff can achieve their goals.

“I have to thank the council for awarding me the grant. Having their backing has made a significant difference to my start up. I am going to be busy for a few weeks getting the place ready, but I hope to open by late spring, early summer.”

The grants are one of the many ways the Council is supporting businesses and rejuvenating high streets as part of its Pride in Our Community High Street initiative.

Mayor of the borough of Telford and Wrekin Councillor Raj Mehta handed over the grant cheque to Karen.  He said: “Although these grants are relatively small, they make a real difference to local businesses who are looking for a bit of help to start up.  As well as creating jobs locally, small businesses like the Walnut are also breathing new life into our high streets.  I wish Karen the very best of luck.”

The Walnut opens at 35-37 Tan Bank, Wellington soon.
