Schools celebrate improved attendance and reduced absence
Schools across the borough of Telford and Wrekin have celebrated improved attendance and reduced persistent absence during the academic year 2017-2018.
Four schools received Attendance Award shields for their performance at the annual Attendance Support Team Awards.
The awards have two categories – most improved school attendance and biggest reduction in persistent absence and there is a primary and secondary award in both.
Captain Webb Primary is the primary school with the biggest reduction in persistent absence and Old Park Primary achieved the most improved attendance.
The secondary awards were given to the Bridge School for biggest reduction in persistent absence and Burton Borough School for most improved attendance.
Council leader Shaun Davies said: “The pupils, parents, and staff of all these schools deserve congratulations for reaching these achievements.
“Good attendance at school is very important as it improves the life chances of young people by helps them get better exam results and broadens their choices for the future.”
The pupils were presented with the awards by the Council’s group manager for Access and Inclusion Cathy Hobbs.
