Spring into St George’s Day this weekend

Spring into St George’s Day, Telford’s family favorite event, is back this Saturday.

Spring into St George’s Day this weekend

New for this year’s event is a St Georges themed procession featuring the infamous Veolia Scrap Dragon. The Spring parade, which will lead from Southwater One down to the Town Park Arena, will begin at 11.30am.
People of all ages can join in from 10am on Saturday at Southwater Library by making a St Georges Shield, then take part in the parade itself.  Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Local community groups and artists will be coming together in a colourful showcase of dance, music and costumes celebrating St Georges Day from the past and present.

In a packed programme of activities throughout the day, Telford’s Got Talent will be introducing their talent stage in Southwater One throughout the day where audiences can watch performances from those auditioning for this year’s talent show.

The Ironbridge Coracle Trust will have coracles on display on Southwater Lake, and the Telford Model Boat Club will demonstrating crafts of all shapes and sizes on Spout Pool.

The full lineup includes a special visit from Paw Patrol characters, Chase and Marshall, exciting arena demonstrations from Savage Skills BMX display team to stunt horse riders from the Company of Horsemen, plus a range of engaging entertainment including a dog show organised by the Ironbridge Rotary Club, a circus skills tent, pony rides, kids go karting, walk about characters, a magical musical bike and lots more.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to meet two Strongmen guests ahead of Telford’s Balloon Fiesta which is taking place next month.

Liz Noakes, Assistant Director for Health and Well Being said: “We are extremely proud to be hosting Spring into St George’s Day here in Telford to celebrate the patron saint of England. We know how much people enjoy the community element of all of our events so we are delighted to be able to add a welcome parade to open Spring this year.”

Spring into St Georges Day is a free event to celebrate St George’s Day with activities and entertainment for all of the family to enjoy.

The event takes place in Telford Town Park and Southwater from 11am until 4pm.
