Residents reminded to register to vote
Local residents in Telford and Wrekin are being reminded to ensure they are registered to vote in upcoming elections on 2 May.
People who have recently moved house and young people who have turned 18 since the last elections are specifically being reminded to make sure they are registered.
Under Individual Electoral Registration (IER), which was introduced a few years ago, each person is now required to register to vote individually, rather than by household.
If you are not registered to vote, you can apply here www.gov.uk/registertovote.
Richard Partington, Telford & Wrekin Council’s managing director and the borough’s returning officer, said: “It is really important that people living in Telford and Wrekin make sure that they are registered to vote.
“Being registered to vote gives you the right to participate at elections and can also improve your credit rating, which is another reason to register.”
Residents who will be away on holiday on 2 May are also being reminded to register for a postal vote. More details about this can be found here: https://www.yourvotematters.co.uk/how-do-i-vote/voting-by-post
The deadline to register to vote for elections is Friday 12 April 2019.
