Grant for local hairdresser to open salon in Ironbridge
A £10,000 Empty Unit Incentive Grant from Telford & Wrekin Council has meant a local hairdresser can realise her dream of opening a salon in Ironbridge.
Charmaine’s Hair & Beauty will open soon at 1 Waterloo Road, offering a full range of hair and beauty services and treatments.
Owner Charmaine Baker has built up a loyal customer base since qualifying in 2005. She has worked in various hair salons over the years and has more recently been running her own mobile hairdressing business.
Getting a £10,000 Empty Unit Incentive Grant from Telford & Wrekin Council’s Pride in Our Community High Street Fund has meant a world of difference to Charmaine.
Charmaine said: “My children are now in full time education, so this is a great time for me to move on and open my own salon. I couldn’t have done this so soon without the support from the council and its grant scheme. I am so grateful for the help they have given me.
“It is such an exciting time and I am really looking forward to welcoming my existing clients to the new salon in beautiful Ironbridge. I am also very much looking forward to welcoming new clients from the area too.”
Councillor Lee Carter, Telford & Wrekin Council cabinet member for finance, commercial services and economic development, handed over the grant cheque to Charmaine on Friday.
He said: “It is great to see how these grants are helping small businesses to grow. The grants are just one of the many ways we are supporting businesses and boosting our local high streets. It was lovely to meet Charmaine and to hear her plans for the new salon. I wish her all the luck in the world.”
