Bringing festive cheer to Telford’s vulnerable residents

Hoping to bring some festive cheer to some of Telford’s most vulnerable residents, the Mayor of Telford is inviting guests to join him for a Christmas-themed afternoon tea on December Sunday, December 16.

The event, being organised by Councillor Rajash Mehta, aims to raise support for a number of charities through ticket sales, a raffle and an auction with some very special prizes.

The event is being held on Sunday, December 16 between 2-5pm at Telford Hotel and Golf Resort, cost per person is £16.95

Let’s Go Quackers, an arts project made possible by Telford & Wrekin Council’s Pride in Your High Street Fund, have donated a one off duck for the auction and other prizes include a case of Prosecco, unique Building Bridges teddy with more to be announced.

Guests can expect mulled wine on arrival, Christmas-themed afternoon tea, refreshments and carols sung by The Priory School choir.

The event will support three causes, tickets sales will support the charity ‘Building Bridges’ which is the Mayor’s initiative to support small local voluntary organisations.

Guests are also encouraged to bring gifts to be distributed to local organisations Christmas Smile and Telford Crisis Support which operates Telford Food Bank.

Christmas Smile helped provide 700 gifts to adults and children who would otherwise have gone without on Christmas Day while the food bank provides emergency food, toiletries and clothing to meet demand for roughly 3,000 requests each year.

Councillor Mehta said: “Christmas is a time to think about others and show everyone how much you care, not just your family and friends.

“There are people in our community who are struggling right now and together we have the power to make a difference for some of them.

“People fall on bad times in the most unexpected of circumstances and I would hope that if I needed help there would be someone there.

“We’re asking people to bring a gift, however small for under the Christmas tree and join us for afternoon tea to help us make a difference this festive season and spread some good will.
