First ever Better Homes for All awards

There are three nomination categories which, include best landlord, best letting agent and the best tenant.

There are prizes for each category; the best tenant prizes include a year’s Aspiration gym membership or golf membership, £100 shopping voucher and two tickets to the Wrekin Landlord Association Annual Dinner.

Sponsoring the awards is the Wrekin Housing Trust who work closely with private landlords providing a range of services, which benefit landlords, tenants and the community.

Wayne Gethings Managing Director of The Wrekin Housing Trust said “We are really proud to be supporting the first Telford and Wrekin Better Homes for All awards. We welcome this fantastic new initiative by Telford and Wrekin Council to celebrate the success of so many landlords and tenants across the Borough and the contribution they make to the housing sector”.

Telford & Wrekin Council’s Landlord Accreditation Scheme (which is part of the Council’s Better Homes For All package) provides  landlord’s and lettings agent’s the opportunity to sign up to a code of conduct and offers support, training and advice in order to support  their lettings in the private housing rented market and tenants reassurance that their landlord is operating correctly.

The package ensures landlords achieve certain criteria to get their accreditation and to improve standards of privately rented accommodation and living standards.

Cllr Richard Overton, Telford & Wrekin Council’s Cabinet Member for Enforcement, said: “We are delighted to be launching the first ever Better Homes for All awards, just one way in which we are promoting some of the excellent landlords, letting agents and tenants across Telford & Wrekin.  Many of our best landlords and letting agents are now joining our landlord accreditation scheme, which is part of our Better Homes for All package.

“Accreditation provides tenants who want to find a reputable landlord who they know they will be able to trust and who are known for providing good quality accommodation.

“The awards will promote these responsible landlords who tenants can be assured will provide an agreed level of service.

“Equally, we hope that we can help landlords to find good tenants.  Together we believe this can help us to drive up the standards of rented accommodation in the Borough.

“It’s a great way for landlords to find tenants who have a good record of paying on time, looking after the property and reporting any issues quickly”.
