Telford Town Park lands top ten parks in UK by 2018 People’s Choice vote
The people have spoken, Telford Town Park has been named as one of the top ten favourite parks to visit by the Green Flag Award through the 2018 People’s Choice vote.
More than 65,000 votes cast as the nation picked the best of British parks, announcing the top ten winners. With more than 1,800 sites to choose from, all of which met the high standards demanded by the Green Flag Award– the public chose their top ten.
Included in this year’s list of winners are a university campus, Telford Town Park, a woodland and nature reserve. Paul Todd, Green Flag Award manager, said: “We know that parks matter to people and that those tasked with looking after them have faced and are facing some significant challenges with shrinking resources.”
“The number of people that took the time to vote for their favourite park is testament to how much they are valued and we would like to congratulate all the winners.”
Telford Town Park now boasts a brand new adventure high ropes course for thrill seeking visitors, as well as a 10 metre climbing wall and quick jump descender. Visitors can also try their hand at Disc Golf, new to the park this summer. The game is golf with a twist – instead of hitting a golf ball you wield a Frisbee into baskets.
Recent improvements to the open space have included new pathways in the Maxell and Chelsea gardens to improve access, a refurbished bandstand, spiders web and a variety of new plants and flowers sown.
Councillor John Minor, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Green Spaces and Parks, said: “We are delighted that Telford Town Park has been voted as one of the top ten parks in the country. It shows that the public really value this space as much as we do! We are continuing to improve Telford Town Park and are very proud of what it brings to Telford, and the community.”
