Telford's House of Fraser to remain open
Telford & Wrekin Council has welcomed the news that the House of Fraser store in Telford Shopping Centre is to remain open.
Councillor Lee Carter, Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet member for Economic Development, said: “I am delighted at the news that Telford’s House of Fraser store is to remain open. Most importantly is that it safeguards a significant number of jobs. The shopping centre owner Sovereign is a valued partner and we have been proud to work with them to support the negotiations to retain House of Fraser.
“While this is an endorsement of the success and potential of our borough, we cannot be complacent as the High Street is facing a challenging time.
“However, we must continue to use Telford’s growing regional status with a reputation as a vibrant place to attend events with a rich and varied leisure offer for visitors and residents to help regenerate our high streets so that they are equipped to overcome the current challenges and thrive into the future.
“The Council’s Pride In Your High Streets Programme, empty units and shop front improvement incentive, marketing support and our commitment to continued free parking are all helping us make progress in this respect.”
