Telford 50 funding helps with Telford Town Park’s exciting upgrade
Renovation works are now underway in the Chelsea and Maxell Gardens for this July in Telford Town Park.
As part of the Telford 50 Legacy Fund project funding, pathways will be resurfaced in the Maxell gardens first and then lead through to the Chelsea gardens.
The works will improve the accessibility of the gardens and encourage more visitors to explore them fully. Recently a number of new information boards have been sited within the gardens providing visitors with facts and figures and an insight into the history of these award winning gardens.
Telford & Wrekin Council is very fortunate to have the support of the Friends of Telford Town Park in helping maintain the gardens to such a high standard, as showcased at their successful Sakura Festival earlier this year which saw hundreds of people enjoying the cherry blossom and Japanese-themed events in the garden. The gardens provide a peaceful and tranquil space with a variety of colourful species and complement the various play, recreation and educational offers within the park.
Access for visitors will be restricted to one garden at a time as the resurfacing takes place over a 5-6 week period. The team at Telford Town Park appreciate the cooperation from visitors during this time, and would like to thank them for their patience.
Following the upgrade, it is planned to hold a community planting day where a variety of bulbs will be planted alongside the pathways to further enhance the Chelsea and Maxell gardens. This is an opportunity to plant new flowers and plants which will grow in both gardens; if anybody would like to get involved with the planting or assist in this process please contact telfordtownpark@telford.gov.uk.
In addition to the works taking place in the Chelsea and Maxell gardens; the bandstand located in Telford Town Park will also see a revamp. Scaffolding will be instructed the week commencing 9 July to assist in the replacement of any dislodged or missing tiles. Work also includes the installment of a snow guard as a safety precaution during the winter period.

The £2m Telford 50 Legacy Fund supports a mix of physical schemes as well as other projects that help tackle key social issues in the borough and reduce demand on council services.
Almost 1,400 people took part in a consultation in summer 2017 to find out what people wanted to see supported as a legacy of Telford 50.
The most popular themes included heritage and tourism, arts and culture and recreation. People were also keen to see the funding allocated to support community events and projects.
