Last days to nominate for Telford Community Pride Awards!

For 2018, Telford’s 50th birthday year, the awards will be extra special.

As part of its anniversary celebrations and Pride in Our Community work, the Council will be hosting the awards at the Telford International Centre on 29 November 2018 – 50 years to the day that Telford was created.

The idea of the 2018 awards is to recognise and celebrate all those who make a difference in the borough, with entries being sought in a variety of categories – from good neighbours to best environmental champion, from sporting achievement to outstanding volunteer, and from best community support group to companies that give something back.

Nominations will be shortlisted by a panel of judges at the end of summer and go forward to the finals on 29 November.

Councillor Shaun Davies, leader of Telford & Wrekin Council, said: "We want to celebrate the wonderful people of Telford and Wrekin and the amazing work so many do in their local communities.

“We hope people will get behind the awards and nominate a person, group or business who means something to them, for whatever reason, or who is making a difference in the community.

“It could be an individual or organisation who has helped or supported you with your life or organised an activity or event that has brought your community together.

They could be a friend, neighbour, work colleague, community group, voluntary group, small business or big business – as long as they are people, projects, events or businesses based in Telford and Wrekin.

Let’s celebrate them.”

Telford Community Pride Awards will build on awards that the Council has run for a number of years.

Since 2009, Telford & Wrekin Council has hosted annual Active Lifestyle Awards to recognise individuals who promote and encourage people to live healthier lifestyles that improve their physical, mental, emotional and social wellbeing.

Awards called Telford Tommy’s have also been held to celebrate young people who have made a difference in their communities.
