Child Sexual Exploitation Advisory Group to meet again

A cross party group of councillors who will oversee the process of appointing an independent commissioning body to procure an independent chair to lead an inquiry into child sexual exploitation in Telford and Wrekin is to meet next week.

Child Sexual Exploitation Advisory Group to meet again

The meeting of the Child Sexual Exploitation Advisory Body is on Wednesday 20 June at 6pm in Addenbrooke House in Telford Town Centre.

The group is working with survivors and their representatives to select three co-opted representatives of child sexual exploitation victims from Telford to sit on the Advisory Body, a move agreed unanimously at the group’s first meeting in May to ensure that victims’ views are heard from the outset.

Members will be asked to look at the terms of reference and report on the steps to procure the independent Commissioning Body.

In April the Council supported commissioning its own independent inquiry and it has set aside an initial allocation of £350,000 for this.

Also in April, Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet agreed a “double independent” process – with an independent commissioning body and chair for the inquiry in order to maximise public confidence in the fairness and integrity of the council-commissioned inquiry.

The meeting on 20 June will be held in public and will be streamed live here
