Flooding update – Telford and Wrekin

The country (including Telford and Wrekin) experienced some typical British bank holiday weather this weekend, with thunderstorms and intense rainfall hitting many areas. Although the borough saw heavy rainfall and impressive displays of lightning, Donnington and Muxton appear to have been the worst affected with approximately 40mm of rain falling between 4pm and 6pm on Sunday.

Flooding update – Telford and Wrekin

With the emergency services fully deployed across the West Midlands, the Council’s out-of-hours officers responded to numerous calls of flooding, delivering sandbags to affected properties. In most cases both the highway gullies and receiving drainage network simply did not have the capacity to deal with this storm; many highways were flooded, but drained away once the storm passed. Where flooding persisted, the Council is working in partnership with other agencies to investigate the cause of these issues.

If floodwater entered your property over the weekend please report it to your insurer and also to the Council so it can investigate. Report online here, or by calling 01952 384000.
