Telford's annual carnival is back!

Preparations are well under way for Telford’s annual carnival event, which will take place on Sunday 15 July.

Telford's annual carnival is back!

This year we will be celebrating 50 years of Telford and looking back at some of the things which have made Telford terrific!

Telford Carnival 2018 will be a feast for the senses with a parade of colourful large scale extravagant hand-made structures which will all be walked, pushed, pulled or wheeled on local roads around the town centre. The parade will be brought to life with music, dance, and carnival costumes.

The procession includes many sections made up of volunteers, community groups and organisations from around the borough. Each group is being supported by a team of professional carnival makers, choreographers and a mass-movement director to create the structures, costumes, music and dances which will all bring the procession together.

Inspired by everything from Telford’s past and present, from the famous to our everyday unsung heroes this year’s carnival is bought to you by the people of Telford themselves to celebrate the town’s landmark birthday in a way that won’t be forgotten.

Telford’s ever popular carnival procession will create a fantastic atmosphere around the park and surrounding areas and people are asked to line to roads around the town centre to view the parade, show their support and take photos.
The procession will finish with a dance and music finale in the town park arena where live music and entertainment will continue on stage throughout the day for people to sit back, enjoy and create celebrations of their own.

There will also be all of the usual carnival activities such as sports activities, a bouncing castle, food and drink stalls and a fun fair.

Cllr Rae Evans, Cabinet Member for Customer Services, Tourism & Partnerships said: “Our carnival events here in Telford have been a huge hit over the last few years so what a great way to celebrate the town’s birthday.

“This year we have given the communities the opportunity to be heavily involved by creating the parade sculptures themselves – they are learning new skills along the way and it’s allowed them to put their own stamp on the event to make it one we will remember.”

Telford Carnival 2018 is a FREE family fun event 11am-6pm and will no doubt be a busy day.

There is plenty of parking available in Telford Shopping Centre car parks and Telford International Centre will also be opening up their car park (chargeable) for the day.

Thank you to Veolia and Wrekin Housing Trust who have supported this event.
