Telford 50 celebrations – Take life higher!

Telford’s Balloon and Kite Fiesta is a free event that takes place on 12 and 13 May - there will be up to four opportunities for people to see hot air balloons take off over the weekend, depending on weather conditions.

Lindstrand Technologies , partners in the event, will be supporting a host of hot air balloons that will be floating above the borough at intervals, as well as being tethered in the QEII Fields in Trust Town Park arena for everyone to see.

For those who fancy taking to the skies themselves, they will have the chance to fly at this event in one of Virgin’s iconic big red balloons.

Anyone who wishes to take part in this unique experience, needs to book in advance and purchase a 7 Day Anytime Plus National flight voucher that will be valid for 18 months and that can be used at the Telford Balloon and Kite Fiesta event or at any of Virgin Balloon Flights  scheduled dates and locations across the UK.

Virgin are delighted to offer this voucher at half price! You just need to use the code Telford50 when booking.

Flight spaces at the Telford Balloon and Kite event are limited and will be booked on a first come, first served basis.

Ballooning is weather dependant.

The family friendly Kite Festival will also take place in both event days in association with the Midland Kite Association who will be bringing an array of beautiful large scale and stunt kites as well as a specially commissioned Telford 50 kite.

There will be opportunities for people to fly or make their own kites, ‘kite doctors’ on hand to help and mend kites, and opportunities to borrow a kite!

Cllr Rae Evans cabinet member for Tourism said “We are delighted to have such a spectacle in our fabulous Town Park.

“A balloon festival is something we haven’t seen in Telford for many years.

"By partnering with Lindstrand Technologies we have secured a great event.

With the additional support of Virgin Balloon Flights,  we are able to offer hot air balloon rides at half price that people can start to book now prior to the event.

"We hope lots of people will be interested in this and will choose to take to the skies in celebration of Telford 50!

"For people who would rather prefer to stay on the ground, the Telford Ballloon and Kite Fiesta free event is a fantastic opportunity for residents and visitors to see something special as part of the Telford 50 celebrations

I hope as many people as possible will come along and make a day of it.”

The event takes place from 12 noon-10pm (with the nightglow) on Saturday 12th May and 11am-7pm on Sunday 13th May.
