Spring into St George’s Day
The fun filled family event known as “Spring into the Park” returns for 2018 to kick of a season of activities for Telford's 50th Birthday!
After its success last year, the free annual family festival returns with a new name and will be celebrating St George’s Day weekend on Sunday 22 April.
This year is about celebrating the past, the now and the future and there will be activities from across the eras with a nostalgic nod to the popular event Super Saturday as we see the return of camel racing in the park.
It wouldn’t be a celebration for St George without a knight and this year’s special guests are children’s TV stars Mike the Knight and Evie so they fit the bill perfectly. There will also be jousting and a dragon with stilt walkers.
There is something for everyone to enjoy on the day including; have a go at circus skills, a bouncy castle village, arts and crafts, archery, climbing wall, RAF Cosford Stem bus, Virtual reality F1 simulator plus lots more.
Last year’s event featured a dog show which people loved so this year the Rotary Club of Ironbridge are coming along to facilitate another one. It costs £2 per dog per entry with lots of fun categories to enter with a final best in show winner.
There will be all the fun of the English fayre activities including: Ball in the Bucket, Helter Skelter Hoopla, Buzz Wire, High Striker and Fairground Organ.
Councillor Rae Evans, Cabinet Member for Customer Services, Tourism & Partnerships, said: “We’re excited to launch our new season of events to celebrate Telford’s 50th birthday”
“This event has become a firm family favourite in the borough’s calendar and it’s great that this year we’re able to offer an even bigger free event to help mark both Telford 50 and St George’s Day.
“I am sure that we’ll see a big turnout for what should be a memorable day in the fabulous surroundings of Telford Town Park, kick-starting lots more events throughout the rest of the year to mark Telford’s 50th anniversary”.
"Spring into St. George's" is on Sunday 22 April, 11am-4pm, in Telford Town Park QEII Arena.
