A range of events celebrating Telford 50 to kick start in April!

As part of Telford turning 50 this year, Telford & Wrekin Council is organising a range of activities and events to celebrate the town’s rich heritage, numerous achievements and exciting future.

The Council is also supporting community-led events across the borough to mark the anniversary and bring together local communities in this unique celebration.


A calendar of different events taking place in the coming months has been listed on Telford 50 website, at www.telford50.co.uk/50events


Lots of different events celebrating Telford 50 are already happening this month.


On Saturday, 14 April, The Man Engine, the largest mechanical puppet ever constructed in Britain will be paying a visit to Blists Hill Victorian Town.


On the same day, “Telford Write Now, Right Now” Literary Festival will bring an all-day literary fun to Southwater Library, for the whole family to join in.


Saturday 14 April also sees the People’s Portrait Tour coming to Wellington Library to capture photos of Telford people, you can drop in between 11am and 3pm it takes minutes to take part. 


Telford’s Got Talent” also gets off to a flying start with their  audition rounds this week.


Later in the month, on 21 April, the “Friends of Telford Town Park” are bringing a taste of Japan to Telford, in the Sakura Festival in Telford Town Park.


Spring into St. Georges" will be celebrating the national day in suitable style with a fun filled family free event on 22 April, with a host of magical and nostalgic activities and entertainment in Telford Town Park. 


23 April is also a date to put in the diary, as Telford & Wrekin Libraries will hold a mammoth book quiz to celebrate 50 books over 50 years in Wellington Libraries, as part of World Book Night

Councillor Rae Evans, Cabinet Member for Customer Services, Tourism & Partnerships, said: “Lots of memorable events for our residents and visitors are happening in the coming months, to mark Telford’s 50th anniversary.


“We want to encourage as many people as possible to get involved - with such a variety of events and activities, there is really something for everyone to enjoy and play their own part in the celebrations.
