Telford at 50 – Come and have your photo taken as part of People’s Portrait Gallery!
As part of celebrating the town’s 50th birthday, Telford & Wrekin Council is supporting photographer Brian Homer and his team to tour across the borough in different venues and capture portraits of local residents as part of a unique record for the borough in its anniversary year
The next location of the People’s Portrait tour is on Saturday, 14 April in Wellington Library.
Anyone is welcome to attend anytime between 11am and 3pm, to snap away and take their own portraits in a professional photography setting.
Each participant or group of participants will get an instant print copy of the photo to take away. The event is free of charge and it takes a few minutes to take part.
In the coming months, the People’s Portrait tour will be at Madeley (29 May), Telford Shopping Centre (21 July) and Southwater One’s ground floor (28 July).
More details of the event can be found on www.telford50.co.uk/peoplesportrait
All the photos taken from the tour will become part of an archive of “Telford people in 2018” and will come together in a final exhibition scheduled for later in the year. Individuals, couples, friends and family could take this opportunity to be part of this unique collection.
The People’s Portrait Gallery tour adds to a wide range of activities and events the Council is organising this year to celebrate Telford turning 50, some of them also aiming to build an archive to show Telford in its 50th year.
For instance, the “Telford 50 photo challenge” is encouraging people to capture the best of Telford over 50 different themes, such as “Green Spaces”, “Architecture”, “Happiness”, and “Made in Telford”.
Anyone is welcome to take part, share their photos and vote for the best ones, more details are available on www.telford50.co.uk/photochallenge
Councillor Rae Evans, Cabinet Member for Customer Services, Tourism & Partnerships, said “With such a high interest in Telford 50 from all over the borough, we want to help as many people as possible to get involved in the anniversary.
“People’s Portrait Tour is a great opportunity for anyone to take part with friends and family and have their portrait taken as a memento of the anniversary.
“With this tour as well as with the “Photo Challenge” that we started at the beginning of the year, our aim is to build a Telford 50 archive, to show the people and places in Telford in its 50th year and what makes our borough a great place to live, work in and visit.”
