BBC Countryfile comes to Dothill Local Nature Reserve

Telford & Wrekin Council joined The Friends and Junior Friends of Dothill Local Nature Reserve along with their partners The Environment Agency, Wellington Town Council, Shropshire Wildlife Trust and Dothill Primary School, to welcome Matt Baker and the BBC Countryfile team to the Reserve to film the work they and their partners have been doing on site.

The 'Junior Friends' showed Matt how to build a home for 'bugs and beasties', while the older 'Friends' showed off a posh 'des res' for a special bird and showed Matt pictures of a long-lost visitor to the site.

None of these visitors to the site would be there if the water was polluted. The 'Love Your Rivers' volunteers showed how they, with the help of the Environment Agency, had identified water pollution on site. These results had demonstrated the need to find misconnections of drains from houses and businesses, which the Environment Agency investigate.

A project to restore wetland habitat, which provides the added benefits of natural water filtration and some flood relief, was underway at the time of recording. The groundwork for this, undertaken by Telford and Wrekin Council and the Shropshire Wildlife Trust, is now complete.

The programme will be shown this Sunday evening, 25th March 2018. Join us there on our beautiful Reserve!
