18 Community projects receive grants

A scout group, housing association, school and bowling club are among 18 different recipients of grants that will benefit communities across Telford and Wrekin.

Telford & Wrekin Council alongside their recycling and waste contractor, Veolia, have announced that they have awarded funding to a variety of projects across the borough as part of the EnviroGrant and Sports Funding scheme.

The diverse recipients of funding attended a special event on Thursday 8 March at The Wakes in Oakengates where they received their funding awards.

More than £13,000 was handed out to projects that benefit their local communities or environment, including sports groups which promote healthy living.

The presentations were made by Councillor Shaun Davies, Telford & Wrekin Council Leader and Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood Services & the Pride in Our Community programme, Councillor Stephen Reynolds, Mayor of the borough of Telford and Wrekin and Steve Mitchell, Midlands West Director of Veolia. The EnviroGrant and Sports Funding are part of the added value brought to the borough through the contract Telford & Wrekin Council has with Veolia.

Steve Mitchell, said, “We’re delighted to support local groups through these grants. It was great to meet the enthusiastic people who work so hard to strengthen communities and help the environment.”

Councillor Shaun Davies said, “I am pleased to have met people here tonight who are dedicated to making a real difference in their communities. The EnviroGrant scheme is now open for applications again - community organisations can apply for up to £1,000 for projects based in the borough of Telford and Wrekin.  The application is relatively straight forward to complete and Veolia and Telford & Wrekin Council want these funds to go to where they are needed the most.”

If you would like to apply to next round of the EnviroGrant Scheme you can do so now. Deadline for applications is 31st July 2018 and application forms are available to download here.
