More snow and icy weather as ‘The Beast from the East’ arrives. We are continuing to work hard to keep Telford and Wrekin moving, and keep you informed. Here is an update and some useful information, so please do share.

Weather update, 1 March 2018, 1.30pm

The Met Office’s Warning for snow and ice is due to continue until Friday. You can keep an eye on the weather reports here https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/warnings#?date=2018-03-01

Gritting - our gritting teams have been out since 7am gritting the roads. The main roads are looking good at the moment, but the teams will be going out throughout the day. The grit only works when traffic is using the roads, so conditions may be tricky in the morning so motorists are advised to take extra.  You can find more information about the roads that we grit here http://www.telford.gov.uk/info/20047/winter_service/520/winter_gritting

Schools – It’s a school’s decision if they close, not ours. Details on school closures can be found here http://apps.telford.gov.uk/snowline/ - if you are unsure if your school is open or not, contact them directly.

Recycling and rubbish collections - Crews are out collecting, but there are a small number of areas currently inaccessible. Crews will keep trying. However, it might not be possible for your recycling and waste containers to be collected on their normal day.  If you are due to have your purple top bin, blue bag or red top bin emptied please leave these containers out, in a safe place and we will collect them as soon as possible. If you were due to have your green bin emptied and it hasn’t been, please take it back in, and put it out on your next scheduled collection date.  Household Recycling Centres at Hortonwood 50 and Halesfield 1 are open as usual. Bulky collections due tomorrow have been rearranged for next week.

Grit bins – we are working with our Snow Wardens to clear as many paths and side roads as we can.  There are a number of grit bins located across the borough for communities to use if conditions are difficult. Our crews have been out checking them and they are well stocked at the moment. Information about where they are located, how to request a grit bin or a refill here http://www.telford.gov.uk/info/20047/winter_service/522/grit_bins

How you can help – please continue to look out for one another.  Look in on any elderly or vulnerable neighbours and check they are staying warm and have the provisions and medications they need.  If you are worried about your health or someone you know ring 111.

If you are concerned with anyone who may be sleeping rough then please call Maninplace on 01952 248248.
