Get involved in this year’s Carnival of Telford Giants!

The annual Carnival event becomes a Carnival of Telford Giants on Sunday, 15 July marking Telford’s 50th anniversary with an awesome, colourful carnival celebrating the borough’s people and places, heritage and bright future.

The Council is looking for community groups, volunteers and organisations from across the borough to apply by 26 February to be part of an amazing parade celebrating the Giants of Telford.

Together with communities, the Council will identify who the Giants of Telford are and bring them to life for the Carnival parade.

The Council is looking for structures that can be carried, walked, pushed, pulled or wheeled in the parade.

Ten groups will be selected and work with an artist to create a “Giant of Telford” for the Carnival parade.

Dance groups are also encouraged to come forward to take part and add colour to the procession in Carnival costumes under the guidance of a mass choreographer.

Groups who already have carnival costumes or could play music are also invited to apply to join the parade.

Anyone who wishes to apply to be part of the Carnival of Telford Giants can do so using the form at www.telford50.co.uk/carnival.

The Council is also looking for volunteers to help with the Carnival of Giants.

Volunteers are called GEMs (Golden Event Makers) and as many as possible are needed to support Telford 50 events, including the Carnival.

Anyone wanting to volunteer can apply online on www.telford50.co.uk/GEM

Councillor Paul Watling said: “We want as many people as possible to take part in this Carnival and its Telford Giants theme.

“This is a great event that I am sure will strike a real chord with people and bring communities together to celebrate Telford’s 50th anniversary, its diversity, creativity and enthusiasm for the future."

To mark Telford’s 50th anniversary this year, the Council is organising and supporting a range of anniversary celebrations and events – the full programme of events is on the dedicated Telford 50 website.
