The neighbourhood nursery has been serving the community since the late 1960s by offering 44 childcare spaces and was awarded charity status in 2003.  Increased demand for its services in recent years spurred the nursery to start raising funds for a new building that would provide the facilities the community needs.
 
Funding of £100k from Telford & Wrekin Council’s Community Pride Fund and money from the Government’s Early Years Capital Fund have topped up the funds raised by the local community to help make the nursery’s dream of a new home become a reality.
 
The new, building facility is now providing another 30 much-needed childcare places for local families, an after school club for local primary school children as well as a community space for local events, activities and training.
 
Nursery manager Louise Hurcomb said: “We are delighted to have received so much support from our families, committee members as well as the wider community.  We worked really hard to fund raise as much as we could, but this would not have been financially possible without the Pride funding.

“The new building was very much needed and now provides the children and staff with a much more modern and stimulating environment to be in. The children have said that their favourite parts are the new shaped windows and play area.  Additional places are filling up nicely and we have also been able to employ more full time staff.

“We are planning to hold an open day in April where people will be welcome to come and see what they have helped us to achieve.”
 
Councillor Shirley Reynolds, Telford & Wrekin Council cabinet member responsible for education, said: “This is a fantastic facility that is very much valued by the local community.  The new nursery provides such a welcoming and stimulating environment for the children.  It really is great to see everyone’s hard work pay off.”
