Improvements to Dawley Park are about to start

Improvements to Dawley Park get underway next week thanks to a joint scheme by Great Dawley Town Council and Telford & Wrekin Council.

Improvements to Dawley Park are about to start

This much loved park is a favourite with local residents, families, dog walkers and visitors out to enjoy the leisure and fitness facilities as well as a prime venue for local events and activities.

The improvement scheme will focus on the bowling green area of the park which has not been as well used at it once was and as a result has had issues with anti-social behaviour.  The planned scheme will see the area remodelled to create a fenced off bowling green with access restricted to authorised bowling groups and maintenance teams, CCTV installed, a new Centenary war memorial garden to provide a peaceful place for people to relax and enjoy the surroundings and a story-telling area for local schools and other community groups to use.

The garden design will feature three pathways leading to a circular area in the middle where a new memorial sculpture will be situated with seating around it.  The memorial garden is a fitting addition to the park which was dedicated in 2016 as a Centenary Fields memorial space by the national charity Fields in Trust and Royal British Legion to mark the centenary of World War 1.  The surrounding planting will provide year-round interest, including flowering cherry trees and a mix of shrubs and perennials.

Local company Nobridge Nursery has designed the garden and will provide the plants and undertake the soft landscaping.  Council contractors will be doing the hard landscaping.  The scheme is expected to be completed in time for summer.
