Adverse weather affects recycling and waste collections
The recent bad weather is taking a toll on recycling and waste collections across the borough, with road conditions causing issues for collection vehicles. Telford & Wrekin Council & recycling contractor Veolia have issued advice for residents about recycling and waste services during this time.
Steve Mitchell, Veolia Area Director Midlands West, said, “We are working hard to collect from the 75,000 houses across the borough, unfortunately the road conditions are preventing us doing this in some places. We are therefore advising about possible changes to the collections in these adverse weather conditions, and we will resume normal service as soon as we can.”
If collection crews are unable to collect the red top/purple top bins and blue bags on a usual collection day due to bad weather, residents are advised to leave them out in a safe place and these will be collected as soon as possible. If collection crews are unable to collect the green bin, residents are advised to take these back in until their next scheduled collection date with any additional bags or boxes of recyclables. Anyone who has booked a bulky item collection will be contacted to re-schedule collection for when the weather is clearer. Full details of our bad weather procedure here.
Residents are also being reminded that the Household Recycling Centres, which are located at Hortonwood 50 and Halesfield 1, remain open as usual. These are open 362 days per year 9am – 5pm, they are only closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Further information about recycling in Telford & Wrekin here.
