Telford & Wrekin Council have launched a series of workshops that will run throughout November with the aim of making technology accessible to everyone. 

Telford Online is about helping residents develop the skills they need in order to communicate online and use more digital services that the council have to offer. 

The courses are running in libraries around the borough throughout the month and are free to attend. They are aimed at all ages with different skills from beginners to students to people who have an interest in 3D printing. 

Here is a taster of what is on offer:

•Digital Drop-in – Drop in and find out about a range of online services the council has including My Telford, Switch Telford, eBooks and eMagazines.

•Homework Help – Find out about the information libraries have that can help with homework.

•First Click – A two week basic IT course, suitable for absolute beginners, and those with very little experience. 

•Discover…eReading – Drop in and find out how to access free eBooks, eAudio, eMagazines and eComics. 

•Discover… 3D printing – Watch our newest piece of equipment in action

•Discover…applying for a school place – Find out how to complete the online form to apply for a school place.

•Ancestry – A taster session to help you use Ancestry.co.uk.

•Discover…coding – A taster session for 9 – 11 year olds interested in computer coding.

•Getting started with email – Create your own email address.

One of the main focuses of this project is to encourage all residents to set up a My Telford account. My Telford is the new portal designed to give customers a single sign up to access and manage their Council accounts, make payments, access Council services and report issues or concerns and track their progress.

Customers who sign up to My Telford will be able to access their accounts in one easy place, anytime, anywhere. 

Cllr Rae Evans, Cabinet Member for Customer Services, Tourism & Partnerships, said: “In this day and age it is important that residents have the access and skills to be able to engage with services and people online. 

“Telford Online is an opportunity to enable the community to develop and expand their knowledge, ask questions and learn something new.  

“The digital world is changing all the time and the Council are constantly looking at ways to make communication more efficient and easier for customers.”
