Halal meat in schools
We can confirm that the report in yesterday’s Telegraph is correct. We use unstunned Halal meat in our school meals at four of our schools. We took this decision several years ago to meet the needs of our diverse multi-cultural community.
As it stands, we have no plans to introduce a ban or instigate any changes without full consultation with our residents. All four schools which serve unstunned Halal meat for religious purposes also serve non Halal meat for other pupils. Of the 8.500 meals served in our schools on any given day, only four per cent contain Halal meat.
