Let’s Dine dish out Chef of the Year award 2017

Let’s Dine provides a school meals service to the education sector extending to both primary and secondary schools within Telford & Wrekin and surrounding areas.

An additional aspect of the catering service is the Cooking Bus, which works closely with families and schools to help promote healthy and affordable meal options. Let’s Dine also works alongside commercial clients in facilitating their hospitality provisions.

The Chef of the Year award aims to showcase the talent and skill base of catering employees, whilst contributing towards the development of nutritional menus offered across the service.

The award was divided into two stages for the applicants. The first stage was to develop a main meal and dessert compliant with school food standards, meeting criteria of a strict maximum spend.

The second stage of the Chef of the Year award was to prepare and cook a two course meal for a panel of judges at Ercall Wood Technology College. At this stage of the competition, the competitors were judged on the cost of the meal per head, presentation, nutritional quality and taste.

Other crucial aspects involve the adaptability of each meal presented when producing in mass numbers for both primary and secondary schools.

Councillor Lee Carter, Cabinet Member for Finance, Commercial Services and Economic Development, said: “The Chef of the Year award recognises skills and talent instilled within our employees at Let’s Dine, it’s been great to showcase the extensive capability within the team.

We would like to thank Unilever Food Solutions, Rowlands Ltd Fruit & Veg, John Sheppard Butchers and Bikold Foodservice for their support with this award.

The Chef of the Year award has promoted both confidence and passion from each applicant, and collectively will enhance the service and menu Let’s Dine provide.”

The winner Rebecca Bowdler received the coveted Chef Jacket, a year’s subscription for Horsehay Golf club donated by Aspirations and a Unilever Hamper; the runner up Sharon Deavall received a Unilever Hamper.
