Better Care Fund progress update

Telford’s Health & Wellbeing Board has received an update report on how health and social care services are working more closely together to improve services in the Borough and agree its plans for the next 2 years.

Better Care Fund progress update

The Better Care Fund is a national programme which is jointly led locally by the Council and the NHS Telford and Wrekin Clinical Commissioning Group.

Its aim is to transform the health and social care system through a whole package of innovative measures aimed at supporting people to remain independent in their communities and reduce the pressure on admissions to hospital and long term social care services.

The report seeks approval of the planned programme of expenditure of £38 million for the next 2 years.

Councillor Arnold England, the chairman of Telford and Wrekin Health & Wellbeing Board, said: “The Better Care Fund is delivering wide ranging improvements within the health and social care system.

“Key objectives include resilient local communities focusing on wellbeing and prevention, supporting people to remain independent, reducing reliance on social care services and reducing avoidable admissions.”                               :

Councillor Paul Watling, Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet member for Children and Adults Early Help and Support, said: “The new two year (2017-2019)  draft plan will go before our cabinet meeting for final approval from the Council’s point of view and underlines our commitment to improved, holistic services for the good of our community.”
