Council works with partners to progress stalled Randlay site

Talks have taken place to help unblock a stalled private development site in Randlay.

Council works with partners to progress stalled Randlay site

The site of the former shops and community centre in Randlay remains undeveloped since a wider regeneration scheme which saw Telford & Wrekin Council, work with Hollinswood & Randlay Parish Council, to build new shops and a new community centre.

The landowner had originally planned to build a private care home on the site, however this scheme stalled due to a lack of private funding.

Council’s Leader Cllr Shaun Davies, officers, ward councillors Nathan England and Chris Turley and the Chairman of the Parish Council have now met to find ways to kickstart development on this site.

In the short term, the Council is working with the landowner/developer to make the site safer and tidier following concerns from local residents, while working with the landowner to look at viable options for future development to bring this site back into use as soon as possible.

Cllr Davies said: “The Council extensively redeveloped Randlay’s centre with new shops and a community centre that has been very well received.

“However this site in Randlay centre originally planned for a care home and houses has remained undeveloped because it has not secured private funding to progress.

“All the partners are fully committed to find a new development use for the site as quickly as possible and a number of possible options are now being considered.

“We fully appreciate local concerns that the site remains undeveloped and we have taken steps to tidy it in the short term and we will keep people informed as matters progress.”
