“Pop up beach” to bring taste of the seaside to Telford

The seaside is coming to Telford! The town centre’s £250m Southwater development is playing host to a pop up beach for 10 days in July.

It gives people the opportunity to enjoy a lazy afternoon in the sun…. take a selfie in the giant deck chair with friends…run sand through your toes…or kick back and relax while enjoying a glass of whatever or a cup of tea or coffee.

Southwater Beach will be open for 10 days launching at the ever popular Carnival of Giants event on 15 July.

Brazilian cuisine will be on offer at Telford’s pop up beach on the first weekend to add to the copacabana feeling. The Beach Bar run by Explorer Drinks will be open daily serving hot, soft and alcoholic drinks along with waffles with a variety of toppings.

For the final weekend, Smoked Shropshire will be there to celebrate the end of the school year by providing a barbecue on the pop up beach.

Cllr Shaun Davies, Council Leader said:

“Since Southwater opened, we have been committed to providing entertainment and events for our community and visitors that is appropriate to the time of year and the pop up beach is a natural addition to that.

“It will give residents the chance to enjoy a feel of being at the seaside in the largest landlocked county in the country. We hope it will be enjoyed by people of all ages for the 10 days that it is here.”

Southwater Beach will open at 11am on July 15 and will be located by the entrance to Telford Town Park by Southwater Lake.

Opening hours will be 11am-8pm for the first weekend, 11am-6pm Monday-Wednesday and then 11am-8pm for the remainder. It will close at 8pm on Sunday 23 July.

Southwater Beach is located just a stone’s throw away from a range of restaurants including well known names such as Chimichanga, Zizzi, TGI Fridays and Pizza Express, Telford Ice Rink, Tenpin Bowling, Cineworld IMAX Cinema Telford Shopping Centre - Telford has something to offer all the family.
