Almost 5,000 votes for Telford 50th anniversary logo

Almost 5,000 votes for Telford 50th anniversary logo

The council wants to give the opportunity to as many people as possible from across the borough to get involved in the celebrations.

As a first step, at the end of June, the council asked people to choose Telford’s 50th anniversary logo, to represent Telford in its 50th year.

Three logo options were available and an online survey was promoted on the Council’s website (www.telford.gov.uk/50) and social media.
The survey ended with nearly 5,000 votes recorded.

Council leader Councillor Shaun Davies said: “It’s great to see such strong interest in Telford’s 50th anniversary and the exciting year of celebrations being planned for 2018.”

“Our 50th anniversary celebrations will bring many thousands of people together and demonstrate the pride that we all have in our community in the borough.”

“We are already attracting private sector funding to support the celebrations. We’re certain the developing programme will help attract more visitors here and raise our profile as a destination, which can only be good for economy and a strong tourism sector. There will also be funding for legacy projects which will help to create a new chapter in the borough’s development.”

The logo chosen by the public will be officially unveiled at The Carnival of Giants in Telford Town Park on July 15th. .

A more detailed programme for Telford 50 celebrations will be announced later in the year.
