Date confirmed for handover of Sutton Hill Community Centre

Negotiations are now complete between the Trust and Telford & Wrekin Council and the community asset transfer arrangements are being finalised.

The Trust has appointed its Centre Manager, Mike Crawshaw, who will be taking up the reins on behalf of the community.

Additional staff are currently being recruited, including General Assistants, a Cleaner/Caretaker and a Catering Manager for a new community café.

The Community Trust has some exciting ideas for the future of the Centre and is appealing to local people to be supportive and to get involved.

John McGrath, Chairman of the Trust said, “We are really looking forward to taking over the community centre for the people of Sutton Hill. It’s our centre and we want it to be somewhere all local people want to come to, to get involved in activities, classes, events or just to pop in for a chat and a cuppa.

For the Centre to be a success we need people to come forward and to offer any time or support that they can. We are actively looking for volunteers to help out with the community café, putting on community events and activities, fundraising and to help us start up a new youth club. If you can help in any way please get in touch – we would love to hear from you.”

Councillor Paul Watling, Telford & Wrekin Council Cabinet Member for Communities said, “We are really pleased that local people have come together to form the new charity. The Council will support the Trust as much as possible to ensure a smooth handover of the building. I look forward to seeing the community centre go from strength to strength.”
