There is no such thing as a typical foster carer
Telford & Wrekin Council is appealing to people from all backgrounds and experiences to think about becoming foster carers.
We’re looking for a wide range of people, regardless of race, gender or sexuality, who have different personalities and life experiences and who have brought up or looked after children, especially those who have experience with working with teenagers before.
You could be caring for siblings, older children or children with special needs and challenging behaviour in the short term and long term. In return for your dedication and commitment, we will offer excellent training, the support of a supervising social worker, round-the-clock access to help and support and an ever-increasing financial offer which includes an allowance per child and a ‘fee’ when you have a child in placement.
Councillor Paul Watling, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People & Communities, said: “There is no one type of person who makes a good
foster carer but there are some qualities that help: experience of listening to children, the confidence to handle difficult situations and the flexibility to
try out new things. You may already be a foster carer or someone
working in the health/child-centred sector.
“All you need is a spare bedroom, be in good health and want to make a difference to a child’s life this year.
“As a local authority fostering service, we know our children and their social workers and we are non-profit-making.”
