Join the Enterprise Adviser Network
Businesses in Telford and Wrekin are being encouraged to work with schools and colleges to better prepare students for the world of work.

On Tuesday 11 October, the Enterprise Adviser Network was launched by the Careers and Enterprise Company with Telford & Wrekin Council and the Marches Local Enterprise Partnership.
Businesses bosses attending the launch at the Enginuity museum on the Ironbridge Gorge were urged to volunteer a member of staff to act as an adviser to Senior Leadership teams within educational establishments to support the development of Enterprise programmes. Time commitment would be for one day a month for one academic year.
Trained and supported by an Enterprise Coordinator, the advisers will be able to share their business knowledge and expertise and identify how schools and colleges can develop their business links to best prepare their students for the world of work. It would lead to the development of a tailor-made programme for the school or college and forge closer links for the businesses involved.
Floyd Millen, Head of Operation Delivery at the Careers and Enterprise Company said: “So far, we have 800 advisers across the country and 75 Enterprise Coordinators which means we are primed to be working in 1,500 schools. That’s a great opportunity.”
Councillor Gilly Reynolds, Telford & Wrekin Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, Employment & Regeneration, said: “Our priorities are to put our children and young people first, to improve local people's prospects through education and skills and to protect and create jobs by being, as an authority, business winning and business supporting.
“What’s fantastic about the Careers and Enterprise Company is the added value it is giving us in our ability to integrate those three things and really ensure that our young people in the borough are equipped for the world of work when they leave education, that they know what employment opportunities there are in the local area and that businesses know they are taking responsibility working with those schools to ‘grow their own’.”
