Skate back in time this September
Telford Ice Rink is holding a very special night this September when it throws open its doors to decades gone by, taking a nostalgic trip back in time for music, skating and reminiscing.
‘Skate Back in Time’ on Saturday 24 September is an opportunity to relive a youth of evenings queuing outside the rink to go skating with friends and listen to the latest tunes from the best DJ in town ‘Porky Pig’ (aka Paul ‘Shuttsie’ Shuttleworth).
The tradition of the evening skate started as far back as 1984, so perhaps the teens from yesteryear being dropped off are now the parents of today dropping the new generation off to enjoy this amazing facility.
Come and hear the songs that take you back to the era of backcombed hair, leather jackets, drainpipes, leg warmers and even double demin, with songs playing from the 80s, 90s, 00s and present day.
Did you meet your partner at the rink? Come and relive the magic, you could even bring the kids along and show them where it all began.
Still in touch with the friends that made skating all the more special? Get in touch with them, get booked in and rewind the clock back to those great times.
Whether it’s the songs, the fashion, the ‘rinkies’ or the company of friends; whatever the memory, come and relive it for one special night.
To round off the nostalgia of the evening Tigers Lounge bar will be open to cool off between perfecting those skating moves and Porky Pig himself, Paul Shuttleworth, will be DJing, bring back the tunes that instantly take you back in time.
And remember the speed skating session halfway through the night? Well it’s back, so dust off those skates and get ready to show off once more!
Councillor Richard Overton, cabinet member for Housing, Leisure and Health, said: “Telford Ice rink has been a staple night out for two or more generations of our young people now and it remains a popular venue to meet with friends and have fun.
“This night is an opportunity to bring back all those memories and whether reliving it with the same friends or introducing your partner, kids or new friends to your past it is set to be a fantastic night.
“And if your energy isn’t quite what it used to be, hop off the ice and relax in the bar while watching the youngsters of today follow in your footsteps!”
A limited number of early bird tickets have been released at the special price of just £7.55, but get in quick as interest in this event growing fast.
