Let’s go fly a kite!

It promises to be a special day for the skies above Telford on Sunday 4 September – when they will be filled with a dazzling array of graceful colour and spectacular shapes.

Let’s go fly a kite!
Telford Kite Festival looks set to be one of the most enthralling days of the summer when it takes place in the Telford Town Park QEII Fields In Trust Arena.

The free event – put on in conjunction with West Midlands Kite Fliers Association and sponsored by Telford Shopping Centre – will run from 11am to 4pm and promise to be another one of the Arena’s great family days out.

Residents and visitors are being encouraged to bring a picnic and there will also be a range of food and drink stalls to enjoy.

There will be build your own kite workshops in the run up to the big day so everyone can join in, and special kite flying displays during the course of the event.

Councillor Liz Clare, Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet member for Culture, Sports, Parks and Green Spaces,  said: “We’ve already had a fantastic spring and summer in Telford with events like Spring Into The Park, the Drive In Movie and Carnival of Giants.

“But it doesn’t stop there and the Telford Kite Festival looks set to be a fantastic free family day out. We just hope for blue skies and a decent wind!

“I am sure lots of families will come along but we are also getting interest from representatives of kite flying groups from as far afield as London so we are looking forward to a festival of kite flying.”

Glynn Morrow, Telford Shopping Centre manager, added: “The kite festival promises to be a stunning addition to Telford’s calendar and a fantastic day out for the whole family.

“We are going to be taking up the kite theme for a series of events and activity in the centre over the August Bank Holiday, to encourage as many people as possible to join in with this great initiative.”
