British Council International School Award success for Hadley Learning Community
Hadley Learning Community has been awarded the British Council’s prestigious International School Award in recognition of its work to bring the world into the classroom.
Project Coordinator Sajid Younis said: "I am delighted that the hard work and dedication of our pupils and staff have been recognised by the British Council and we have achieved this ISA award.
"I feel very proud that our school is one of the 1,404 schools across the UK who have been awarded with this prestigious award since 2012 – this is when both schools started collaborating with each other.
"We collaborated on different themes of global citizenship like identity and belongings, Fairness & Equality, Rights & Responsibilities, Conflict & Peace and Sustainable living.
"The main purpose and aim of the activities we undertook as a joint venture with our partner school was to engage pupils from both schools, both physically and mentally in projects that would broaden their ideas and horizons, in order, to make them better and more rounded citizens of the current global classroom that we live in.
"Pupils and teachers from both schools posted hand written letters spoke on Skype and visited each other’s schools. We managed to achieve our aims and objectives in promoting global citizenship awareness and at the same time instilling a firm sense of identity, beliefs and values."
British Council Chief Executive, Sir Ciarán Devane, said: ‘The school’s fantastic international work has rightfully earned it this prestigious award. The International School Award is a great chance for schools to demonstrate the important work they’re doing to bring the world into their classrooms."
Hadley Learning Community Principal, Dr Gill Eatough, said: ‘Here at HLC we have been focussed for three years on gaining this award through “Connecting Classrooms”, working very closely with Angelique School in Islamabad.
"This has involved visits from staff to HLC from Angelique School and our staff visiting Islamabad. These visits enable staff to observe lessons, talk to students and staff, they also work with the Senior Team. Staff from Angelique school have also been in our Primary Phase, QHLC and The Bridge School so that they can understand the extent of education across our family of schools."
