Work on the MoD Defence Fulfilment Centre buildings at Donnington is progressing well and is on target for operations to start in the New Year.

MoD: Defence Fulfilment Centre on schedule to open in the New Year
It is expected that the MoD’s new centre for Logistics, Commodities and Services will be fully operational by the end of next summer.

Build contractor McLaren has nearly completed the outer work on the shell of the Defence Fulfilment Centre and attention has now turned to the inside of the two buildings.

Work on the concrete floor of both buildings is complete and lighting is being installed. The exterior landscape work is already being prepared.

It was announced in February last year that Telford had been chosen as the site for the new Defence Fulfilment Centre and work started on site in November.

Councillor Shaun Davies, Telford & Wrekin Council leader, said: “This is a massive development for our borough which has potential to be worth £60m a year to the local economy as well as safeguarding hundreds of jobs at MoD Donnington and creating many more in the supply chain.

“It is great to see it taking shape so rapidly and I look forward to visiting when it is completed.

“It also demonstrates the success of our Enterprise Telford initiative to attract inward investment to the borough – it’s very exciting that the MoD site is nearing completion at the same time as we are seeing a lot of interest in inward investment across the borough.

“One example of this was Magna International’s announcement that they plan to open a new site at our T54 technology park.”

Barbara Doornink, Team Leidos’ Programme Director, said: “The DFC build programme is well on track, paving the way for the gradual re-distribution of stock in 2017 and beyond.

“This investment in state of the art infrastructure, systems and processes is a significant step in the Team Leidos transformation programme, enabling us to provide our Armed Forces with what they need, where and when they need it.”
