Get the inside story about fostering

There’s never a bad time to enquire about becoming a foster carer.

Get the inside story about fostering
Telford & Wrekin Council’s fostering staff and existing foster carers will be at the Carnival of Giants on Saturday 16 July at Telford Town Park’s QEII Arena.

The team of fostering staff, volunteers, carers are bringing a craft stand to the event where children can play with dinosaurs while adults can discuss what fostering involves and the rewards it brings.

Maureen Horton, Chairwoman of Telford & Wrekin Foster Care Association said: “The idea is to attract people and passers-by, help answer questions and dispel myths. It’s a subtle way of raising awareness!

“There will be a number of people at the Carnival of Giants who will give you the real picture of fostering, warts and all. Among them will be a teenager who will recall her experiences being cared for.

“People take a lot of time thinking about fostering for it is a very important step but if you are interested in becoming a carer, this is where you’ll get the inside story!”

Councillor Paul Watling, cabinet member for Children, Young People and Communities, said: “We are looking for people to care for children in both the short term and long term. We need people who can look after children with challenging behaviour and we are looking for anyone with two or more spare bedrooms who can accommodate brothers and sisters who are in care and for whom staying together is in their best interests.

"If you speak to any foster carer and they’ll tell you it’s the best thing you’ll ever do.”
