Safety event success for more than 2,000 students
More than 2000 students from 50 schools across Telford and Wrekin are taking part in a multi-agency partnership event aimed at raising their awareness of important safety issues.
The Crucial Crew event is taking part over the course of 15 days at AFC Telford United’s New Bucks Head stadium in Wellington.
The venue was provided by AFC Telford United and the security fencing by McPhillips Construction.
Crucial Crew is aimed at 10-11 year old children and is designed to provide the students with education in safety essentials in preparation for their next step up to secondary school.
Councillor Gilly Reynolds, Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet member for Education, said: “Crucial Crew is a fantastic event with more than 2,000 children receiving guidance on what to do in a number of potentially unsafe situations.
“I would very much like to thank AFC Telford United which in many ways has been a great venue for an event of this size and nature.
“I would also like to thank McPhillips Construction for providing security fencing and all of our partners that have supported this year’s event. It would not be possible without their time and effort.”
Partners attending include Western Power (who run a scenario on electricity safety), Telford & Wrekin Council (road safety, water safety, be active and alcohol awareness), the Local Safeguarding Children Board (trusted adult), West Mercia Police (anti social behaviour), School Nurses (transition)), Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service (fire safety), Royal Lifesaving Society (water safety).
