Carnival of Giants announces ‘roarsome’ news

Dinosaur enthusiasts of all ages are in for an enormous treat at Carnival of Giants next month as the Travelling Natural History Museum is set to take over much of Telford Town Park’s QEII Arena.

Carnival of Giants announces ‘roarsome’ news

Taking place on Saturday 16 July, Travelling Natural History Museum will be bringing along a huge selection of prehistoric creatures and activities to Carnival of Giants, making it a day out not to be missed.

There will be photo opportunities galore as all these exciting dinosaurs will be ‘roaming’ the park (ok, not quite roaming but all it takes is a little added imagination!):

• Dimetrodon
• Minmi
• Jurassic crocodile
• Baby Camosaurus
• Jurassic Park raptor (Deinonychus)
• Two Pterodactyls
• Giant Megalodon shark jaw
• Giant dinosaur eating frog
• Animatronic Kota
• Blow up Brachiosaurus

As if that’s not enough, Travelling Natural History Museum will also be bringing along a sand dig containing a T Rex skeleton to allow children to become fully immersed in the theme and find out for themselves what it’s like to uncover fossilized dinosaur bones.

And once the children have uncovered the bones they can uncover their artistic talents at the arts and crafts table by colouring in dino templates.

Councillor Liz Clare, cabinet member for Culture, Sport, Parks and Green Spaces, said: “I’m thrilled to be welcoming the Travelling Natural History Museum to the borough for Carnival of Giants next month.  It will truly be an awesome spectacle to see all these dinosaurs taking over the QEII Arena in the Town Park.

“Children and adults alike are going to be blown away by the sheer size and scale of the prehistoric creatures on display, and while the emphasis of the day will be about having fun I have no doubt that everyone who attends will learn a little bit more about dinosaurs then they knew before.

“Carnival of Giants is going to be a fantastic day out for all the family, with lots to see and do and it’s all taking place in the ‘Best Park in the UK’ or as it will be better known on 16 July the ‘Best Jurassic Park in the UK’!”

The Carnival of Giants is supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.

Peter Knott, Area Director, Arts Council England, said: “We want everyone to have opportunities to enjoy arts and culture in the places they live, which is why we’re investing in Telford & Wrekin Council’s plans for its summer festivals.

“The Carnival of Giants will be a great day out full of art, culture and prehistoric visitors. We hope people will be entertained and inspired.”

Don’t forget that Travelling History Museum is just one of the exciting aspects of the day, which will also include a 500 person parade, sports, activities, market and mini fair to name just a few.

Carnival of Giants takes place from 11am to 4pm on Saturday 16 July, with a parade at 2pm.  The best bit is that the whole day is FREE to attend.
