Care home rated "good" by government inspectors
A Telford & Wrekin Council-run residential care home which provides accommodation for people with profound learning disabilities or complex care needs has been rated “good” by government inspectors.
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) found that Lakewood Court’s 16 residents feel safe in the home and protected from the risk of harm.
The unannounced inspection took place on 15 March and the report says that staff inspectors spoke with were aware of their responsibilities to keep people safe.
“Residents, and relatives, were involved in developing their care plans to meet their individual needs..People received their medicines as prescribed and these were stored and managed safely,” says the report.
“People’s individual risks were assessed and staff knew how to support people safely when providing care.”
The report also says that residents of Lakewood Court enjoy their food, had choices regarding meals and felt involved in their day to day choices. Their dignity and privacy is respected and promoted by the home’s staff who helped the residents maintain their independence.
Inspectors were also told that the 16 residents felt happy living at the home, took part in a number of different activities and were supported to pursue their hobbies and interests . A clear complaints procedure was in place and residents and relatives know how to raise concerns.
“People and staff told us the home was well managed and the management team were approachable and supportive, with knowledgeable, well trained and caring staff,” added the report.
Councillor Arnold England, Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet member for Adult Social Care, said: “I am pleased but not surprised by the CQC report on Lakewood Court.
“It is an excellent facility that provides accommodation and personal care for people who need support but are also supported to maintain their independence as much as possible.”
