Temporary four way lights needed on Limekiln Bank roundabout
Delays caused by utility companies will mean temporary four way traffic lights installed earlier than expected on Telford’s Limekiln Bank roundabout.
A combination of delays by utility companies in diverting apparatus and discovery of previously unknown services which also need diverting have led to plans being changed.
It means McPhillips Construction – the council’s contractor – cannot continue work as intended until the utilities have been diverted.
As a result, carriageway reconstruction work on the Castle Farm Way and Redhill Way approaches to Limekiln Bank roundabout need to be brought forward.
It was intended to carry this work out in late June but doing this work now means the utility companies can complete their work without delaying the main roundabout works.
This will mean temporary four way traffic lights will be required for up to three weeks to allow the reconstruction works to be completed. These will be installed on Tuesday 31 May.
Councillor Angela McClements, Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet member for Neighbourhood Services, said: “We anticipate increased delays to traffic using Limekiln Roundabout during this period and I would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused to road users.
“We would also advise road users to find alternative routes where possible or to allow more time for their journeys.”
Limekiln Bank is one of six roundabouts that are being improved as part of the Telford Growth Point package.
The aim is to increase capacity in the borough’s road network in advance of proposed commercial and residential development.
Work at Limekiln Bank includes widening the roundabout and improving the entry/exit arms to provide additional capacity.
The scheme will also see the installation of a signal controlled crossing for pedestrians across Telford Way and replacement of street lighting, traffic signs and bollards.
The Telford Growth Point package works is funded by a combination of the Marches Local Enterprise Partnership and Section 106 contributions from developers.
Other projects include improvements at Trench Lock roundabout, with work due to start in October, and at the Clock Tower roundabout, with work due to start in June. All work should be completed by March 2017.’
